# Our Impact

Explore how every Blueland product helps lessen microplastic waste and protects our planet’s future.

[**How does Blueland define plastic?**](https://help.blueland.com/en-US/how-does-blueland-define-plastic-1186346)
There are many different kinds of plastic (and they’re everywhere!), but in general we define plastic as a synthetic material that does not biodegrade and is made from polymers—long chains of molecules derived primarily from petrochemicals.

We focus on plastic containers and grams of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), especially from dishwasher and laundry detergent packs!

[**What is CO2e and why does Blueland use it? How is this calculated?**](https://help.blueland.com/en-US/what-is-co2e-and-why-does-blueland-use-it-how-is-this-calculated-1337465)
CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) measures the climate impact of various greenhouse gases in a single comparable number, helping us calculate our carbon savings more effectively. We assume land transportation with a comparable shipping radius for the calculations.

[**What data does Blueland use to calculate its impact?**](https://help.blueland.com/en-US/what-data-does-blueland-use-to-calculate-its-impact-1337466)
We use SPINS MULO data, which represents top-selling items across multiple retail channels like Costco, Amazon, and grocery stores.
